Newhaven homes, from the harbour to the hills
Newhaven is a working port at the mouth of the River Ouse, with the ferry terminal and the old fort on the headland. The housing is a mix. Closer to the town centre and the harbour there are Victorian terraces, many with narrow hallways, steep stairs and small back kitchens. Further up the hill, areas like Denton and Meeching are mostly post-war and later estates, with semi-detached houses and larger gardens.
A terrace and an estate house ask for different things. The terrace wants careful work on stairs, banisters and tight corners. The estate house is bigger, with more floor area and often a conservatory or extension that collects sunlight and dust.
